Products I recommend taking on holiday

image

Another blog post about my Asian holiday – I have a feeling I will keep on coming back to that subject simply because I loved my getaway so very much… I wanted to quickly mention the few products that I really enjoyed using whilst away and that I would recommend to take away on a summer holiday. They are: a BB cream, a face moisturizer with SPF50 and SPF25, an overnight hydrating mask, a face mist, a barrier repair, a small make-up remover, a solid shampoo and an antiseptic cream.

I know some of the choices here might seem obvious to you and you might think “well, she recommends taking a make-up remover, that’s a first”, but please read on and let me explain….

Dermalogica saved my face

image

I haven’t been writing for a while, but there is a very good reason for that. I went on an amazing holiday to the beautiful Thailand, homey Malaysia and funky Singapore. I had the best of times, my skin however - did not… It was a week into my holiday, after some time in the sun and in the salty waters (whilst snorkelling and visiting paradise islands) that, after taking my make up off for the night I saw the most horrifying skin face rash. Red, uneven, porous skin, that after two days turned into tiny white sun spots all over my face. I was petrified. Will I have scars? Will I have pigmentation? Absolute disaster. I even took some photos of my tragic face for a few days but then my phone broke and I lost them (alongside other amazing photos of Bangkok and Phuket and Phi Phi….).

Glossybox is back

image

I’m sorry for the radio silence, which is caused by work. I am working on a case study over the weekend nowadays and have not had much spare time and energy to blog, and that makes me really sad… I thought I would drop only a few lines to let you know I will be coming back soon with more Ingredients Lectures (have plenty of ideas in my head) and more companies’ profiles. I promise to find time to blog .

I wanted to quickly let you know that my April Glossybox has finally arrived. There was a little bit of drama in the office when everyone got their boxes on Thursday but me and my friend. Luckily, the box arrived on Friday so I didn’t have to wait all the way through the weekend to receive it. The Glossybox this month is absolutely stunning – the box itself was designed by Pearl Lowe, and the theme is spring. This month I got a full size Essie nail varnish (in Canyon Coral) which is my favourite and which I love. I am wearing it on my toes now and it looks stunning. I also got the Nip + Fab Mango body butter(which I am keeping for Asia), Yves Rocher So Elixir perfume (which smells granny-like….sorry), Sun Sense daily face moisturiser with SPF 50 (and unfortunately their logo looks like Nivea’s – copycats, really) and a Sleek Blush in Pixie Pink (which is my second favourite after Essie nail varnish).

You can still sign up to Glossybox to receive the stunning April edition box here: http://www.glossybox.co.uk/

Have a lovely week all and I promise to write soon xxx

Ingredients lectures: Parabens

“Formulated without: Parabens, Phthalates, Propylene Glycol, Mineral Oil, PABA, Petrolatum, Paraffin, DEA, Synthetic Colour, Synthetic Fragrance, Animal Ingredients”

– I wrote in my last week’s post about Origins.

What I meant was that Origins are not using any of the above in their products. That’s really great, really….but did I know what any of these ingredients did / meant? I know it is best if skincare and makeup  products do not contain them (that I know), but why?

I thought it was a good idea to create a recurring column on ingredients – for myself and for any of you who read my blog, to make sure we know what we are buying and what are the risks (if there are any) of buying products that contain any of the above ingredients. The recurring column will be called ‘Ingredients lectures’. Today’s post will be about PARABENS.

In a perfect world I would have Origins facial every day

image

For the second month in a row I went to Boots on High Street Kensington  to have a free mini-facial from Origins. I have another appointment in a month’s time; in a perfect world I would have one every single day – Origins products and facial massage truly do change the way my skin looks, feels and works.

The facial lasts for about 20-30 min and is completely free of charge. You are not required to buy any Origins products afterwards, however - you will want them, so be warned!

Before I write about Una Brennan

Before I start writing about Úna Brennan I should probably go out there to Boots and purchase a few more of her products. Why, however, do I have this strong feeling that all of her products are simply incredible, amazing?

I want to be a LUSH-ie

I have never shopped at LUSH before. Well, it’s a lie actually. I did buy a bath bomb before once or twice, but the shop itself never appealed to me as such and to be absolutely honest I always thought that the only products they sold were bath bombs and soap, nothing but that. Also, the Lush stores always seemed tiny to me and rather crammed, packed, putting me outside of my comfort zone and attacking me with overwhelming scents. But hey, was I wrong….!!!!

Oh, how much I love this shop, I cannot express it enough. I actually wanted to work for them a few years back; instead I will write a blog post about them, and not just one – about that I am sure. This is my go-to beauty store, the amazing ‘have it all’ place. I am a big big fan and, despite my huge appetite for trying our new cosmetics and new brands, I am sure I will keep on going back to TBS. Why?

Have you heard of Bioderma?

image

image

The beauty industry’s best-kept secret – say make-up artists. Since the beginning of March, Bioderma - a French pharmacy brand is finally  available in the UK. I say finally, because I have heard so many good things about them. I heard Lisa Eldridge talking about Bioderma on her youtube channel (http://bit.ly/xIV4Ah); Sali Hughes mentioned it in her beauty column for The Guardian (http://bit.ly/YeNLOq) . What is all the hype about? And is Bioderma worth it?

Beauty box fever

image

image

This week I received my very first Glossybox. What is a Glossybox, you ask? A Glossybox is a beautiful pink box (go figure) that you subscribe to and which gets delivered to your doorstep on a monthly basis. The box has a stunning packaging: black ribbon and lovely paper, and contains 5 miniatures of beauty products, be it skincare, make up, fragrance or accessories. It is a lovely idea which allows you to try out different products without the commitment of buying them in full size (and then possibly being left disappointed). In turn, you can try out the samples that are being sent to you and decide whether these products are something you would be interested in purchasing. The box can be also ordered for someone else, as a gift.
